Frequently Asked Questions About Music & Art Lessons in the GTA
Thinking about starting music lessons or art classes for your child, or yourself? Here are the questions we hear most often from families across Etobicoke, Toronto, and Mississauga.
How much do music and art lessons cost in Etobicoke and the GTA?
At Muzart, a 30-minute trial lesson is $35, and our standard monthly programs start at $155. This includes weekly private lessons, all books and learning materials, regular performance opportunities, and personalized instruction across piano, guitar, drums, voice, and art. Our portfolio preparation program is priced at $70 for a trial and $310 monthly, reflecting the additional materials and intensive one-on-one time required. We don’t charge registration fees, and there are no hidden material costs.
What’s the right age to start music or art lessons?
Most children are ready for music lessons between ages 5 and 7, depending on attention span and fine motor development. Piano and voice tend to suit younger beginners well, while guitar and drums typically work best from age 6 or 7 when hand size and coordination are more developed. Art lessons can start as young as 5 in a structured group setting. We also regularly work with teens, adults, and seniors — there’s genuinely no age at which it’s too late to start. Our trial lesson is the best way to gauge readiness; our teachers are experienced at meeting students wherever they are.
What’s included in a $35 trial music or art lesson?
Your trial is a full 30-minute private session (60 minutes for group art trials) with one of our instructors. You’ll get hands-on time with the instrument or medium, a conversation about your goals and experience, a facility tour, and a personalized recommendation for next steps. There’s no obligation to continue — the trial is designed to give you a genuine feel for how we teach before committing to a monthly program. Most families know within the first lesson whether Muzart is the right fit.
Where is Muzart located, and do you serve students from Toronto and Mississauga?
Our studio is at 225 The East Mall, Unit 11 in central Etobicoke, with easy access from Highway 427 and The Queensway and ample free parking. We serve families across the entire Greater Toronto Area, with students regularly traveling from Toronto neighborhoods like The Kingsway, Islington-City Centre, and West Toronto, as well as Mississauga communities including Square One, Erin Mills, Port Credit, and Applewood. Most students reach us within 15 minutes of leaving home.
What makes Muzart different from other music schools in Etobicoke?
Three things set Muzart apart. First, we teach both music and art under one roof, which means families can consolidate lessons and students can explore cross-disciplinary creativity. Second, our piano students learn on premium Essex pianos by Steinway & Sons — a meaningful step up from the upright pianos typical at most schools. Third, our track record: consistent First Class Honours and Honours with Distinction results in RCM examinations, and art students accepted to competitive programs including Etobicoke School of the Arts, Cardinal Carter Academy for the Arts, OCAD University, and Humber College. We’ve been doing this since 2010.
Can my child take music lessons and art classes at the same time?
Absolutely, and many of our families do exactly this. Parents love being able to schedule back-to-back sessions — for example, a piano lesson followed by a group art class — so one trip covers both disciplines. Students benefit from the cross-disciplinary creativity: art students who also take music often show stronger sense of rhythm and composition, while music students who paint or draw tend to develop better visualization of musical structure. We’re one of the only schools in the GTA that offers both music and art at a professional level.
Do I need to own an instrument before starting lessons?
Not for your trial lesson — we provide everything you need during your time at the studio, including our Essex pianos, guitars, drum kits, and art supplies. For ongoing lessons, you’ll want an instrument at home for practice, but we’ll guide you through selecting the right one based on your student’s age, goals, and budget. For piano, a quality keyboard is fine for the first year of lessons. For guitar, we can recommend the right size. Art students receive a take-home supply kit as part of their monthly tuition.
Do you teach adults, or is Muzart only for children?
We teach students of all ages, and adults make up a meaningful portion of our enrollment. Some are returning to an instrument they played in childhood, some are picking up something brand new, and some are preparing for specific goals like performing at a family event or passing a grade exam. Adult students often progress faster than they expect because their focus and practice discipline tend to be stronger. We match adult students with instructors experienced in adult pedagogy — the approach is notably different from teaching children and deserves teachers who are skilled at both.
